Defense is a type of dice entry found on Actions and Reactions that reduces any Damage dealt by an opposing play. The result of the Defense roll is subtracted from the Damage roll to generate the new Damage total to be applied. It is possible for damage to be reduced to 0 in this way, but never less than 0. This is not considered to be an opposed roll.

Piercing effects reduce Defense dice levels. Unlike most dice level reductions, Defense dice can be eliminated by reducing the dice at least one additional level beyond d2.
